Exmoor Dark Skies Festival - special train, Sunday 1st November

12th October, 2026

We’re delighted to be part of the Exmoor National Park Dark Skies Festival for 2026, in its 10th year, which celebrates and explores the wonders of Exmoor after dark.

The Exmoor Dark Sky Reserve is rightly proud of being the first dark sky reserve in Europe and has minimal light pollution. On a cloudless night you can see the milky way, thousands of stars and numerous astronomical sights with the naked eye.

For the first time, on Sunday 1st November, after the clocks have changed, you can experience traveling through across the darkness of Exmoor as the Victorians did. We'll be operating an extra train at 5pm (the 4pm trian will be running as well) so you can experience steam on the moor under dark skies, exactly as passengers did at the turn of the century.

Turn up early, travel in the daylight and then contrast it with an atmospheric trip in the dark.

Normal day fares apply, including under 14s and dogs going for free plus free parking. Don't forget to drop into the Old Station Inn aferwards for a hearty meal and show your ticket for a discount on hyour food!

Important note: Please remember to bring a torch to this event!
