We’re delighted to be part of the Exmoor National Park Dark Skies Festival for 2026, in its 10th year, which celebrates and explores the wonders of Exmoor after dark. The festival invites visitors to discover and explore the wonders of Exmoor after dark.
The Exmoor Dark Sky Reserve is rightly proud of being the first dark sky reserve in Europe and has minimal light pollution. On a clear night, you may be lucky enough to see the Milky Way, thousands of stars and a host of astronomical wonders with the naked eye.
A Special Dark Skies Train – Sunday 1 November 2026
For the first time, we're offering a unique opportunity to experience the magic of steam travel across the darkness of Exmoor, just as passengers did in Victorian times.
On Sunday 1 November only, we'll be running a special 5:00pm steam train service, alongside our usual 4:00pm departure. As the clocks will have changed, this is your chance to experience the railway after dark and enjoy a truly atmospheric journey through the Exmoor countryside.
Why not arrive early, enjoy a journey in daylight, and then experience the contrast of travelling by steam as darkness falls?
Your ticket is valid for the whole day, so you may be able to enjoy more than one return journey.
