After a July of unsettled weather at Woody Bay, August sees the return of drier, hotter, proper summer weather with a recommencement of the weedkilling program down the line and on the sidings.

Replica L&B Wagon SR No 28320 - New photos

Over the winter Martyn, Stuart and several of the regular volunteers have been involved with fabricating the L&B's first 10 Ton open wagon. In the style of the Howard vehicles; Jim Pounds exemplary skill with a paintbrush adds the finishing touch.

With three of the regular members of the Thursday gang (Robin Edwards, Jim Price and Dave Tooke) rostered as train crew today , it was left to Martyn, Stuart, Nigel, John and Richard to carry on with the hard work of lifting several large items onto the roof storage space above the new workshop within the shed.

L&B Members Man the Stands in Devon and Dorset

This weekend the L&B had stands at two exhibitions.
 
Saturday saw one L&B exhibition stand at Bridport & District Model Railway Clubs annual exhibition.  On duty were regular volunteers John Villers and Graham Bendell.

Simon Bates Classsic FM Presenter Visits the L&B Saturday 25th July

The Classic FM presenter and former Radio 1 DJ Simon Bates (extreme right) today held a "Radio 1 Reunion" . A carriage had been reserved especially. Guard Jim Price clips the party's tickets.

The Woody Bay Thursday tea drinking club met again this week.  Peaceful tea drinking was interrupted by Martyn Budd suggesting that we might do some maintenance work on the  rails through the platform.

Woody Bay Beer Festival - Photos!

Although a damp overcast weekend, much ale was consumed at the Beer Festival. For the record the following beers were on offer:

Clearwater Cavalier
Country Life Old Appledore
Cotleigh Tawny Owl
Teignworthy Amys Ale
Teignworthy Strawberries & Cream.

with Wizard Lundy Gold emerging as the favourite tipple. Teignworthy Strawberries & Cream was also well received.

Talyllyn Group of L&B Members working party at Woody Bay

The Talyllyn Group of L&B stalwarts - Rob Prosser, Tim Wilkinson, Geoff Loynes and Murray Dods arrived at Woody Bay this weekend with the aim of installing as much as possible of the remaining signal rodding required to connect the final turnout at the Lynton end with the groundframe.  

After a hard weekends graft,  all the rodding pedestals are now in place as well as most of the rodding, signal pulleys and the point locking mechanism.  So not quite finished but not too much to do now.

Work in Progress - Thursday 25th June

The Thursday gang today completed the clearing out of the remaining tools and materials from the former workshops in the unit at Grange Hill, Bratton Fleming. The lease can now be finally given up at the end of June.
 
Dave Blencowe provided a Luton van with which we were able to transport the various items with two full loads between Bratton Fleming and Woody Bay. Unloading onto flat wagon No.52 we shunted the loads through the station and into the shed for eventual storage and reuse within the new shed extension workshop area.

The twelfth annual Atlantic Coast Express Run for Classic and Vintage Cars brought drivers and their partners from all over Devon and Cornwall to Woody Bay Station on Sunday, setting off from Okehampton at 9.30 a.m
