Victorian Weekend + L&B 110

This weekend will be the railway’s Victorian Weekend, the Sunday also marking the 110th anniversary of the Lynton & Barnstaple. There will be plenty to see, so make sure you come!

Railway AGM

A reminder to members that the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway’s AGMs will be held at Lynton Town Hall on Saturday 17th May. Railway visitors please notice that no passenger trains will be operating on this day. Details of the AGM will be in the post to members shortly.

Sid Gets an Air Pump

Our resident steam locomotive ‘Sid’ is now fitted with a Westinghouse-style air pump. Stuart Wells, the Engineer In Charge at Woody Bay, has spent many hours fabricating and fitting the necessary pipework and connections to make this operational.  This is another significant step as we now do not need to use the air truck to run trains behind this locomotive.

High Profile Visits

The railway was honoured to receive two particularly special visits during this week, one from Right Reverend Michael Laurence Langrish, Lord Bishop of Exeter, and the other from Devon County Council’s Chief Executive, Phil Norrey.

Holwell Castle's Last Departure

Diesel locomotive ‘Holwell Castle’ departed Woody Bay Station for the last time on Monday when the loco was loaded onto a lorry to go to its new home.

Johnny Kingdom Performs Celeb Opening!

Local North Devon & Exmoor Celebrity, Johnny Kingdom visited Woody Bay Station this weekend to formally open the newly refurbished tea rooms.

Railway Teams Up to be Disability Aware

This week, staff and volunteers on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway underwent an intense day of training in Disability Awareness.

New Treatment Plant

Woody Bay Station’s new effluent treatment plant and holding tank were installed beyond the end of the platform this week.
