Blackmoor Gate was the central point of the original railway. After the railway closed it was converted to a private house, then a tea room, then a public house.
The station, trading as the Old Station House Inn, was bought by the L&B Blackmoor Company (a subsidiary of the L&B Railway Trust) in 2023, and is run as a popular pub/restaurant.
The Old Station Inn is a Dog and Children friendly licensed Inn & Restaurant on the A39/A399 Junction at Blackmoor Gate. It is open most days, and offers a wide range of food and drink, and a beer garden wiht superb views and a children's outdoor play area.
The old goods shed and stables have been converted to private houses. Please respect the privacy of the owners and occupants of these properties by limiting your exploration to the imediate grounds of the inn.
Blackmoor Gate station opened in 1898. As the central point of the railway, located at a key crossroads and coach staging point, the station was a fairly busy place. A large goods shed and stables were provided, along with a large water tank, sidings, and a passing loop. Passenger facilities included a refreshment room.
Along witih Woody Bay and Lynton, the station building was built in the Swiss Chalet style by Bob Jones of Lynton. Like Woody Bay station, it included stationmaster's accomodation comprising two small upstairs bedrooms, a parlour, and a simple kitchen.
The station closed along with the railway in 1935, and was sold off. It was converted to a private house, and later into a tea room, then a pub/restaurant.
It was purchased by the L&B Blackmoor Company PLC (a subsidiary of the L&B Railway Trust) in 2023, and will continue to be run as a pub/restaurant.
