2026 season events at the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway

We're pleased to release our programme of events for 2026 with some brand new additions to our roster as well as firm favourites.
Remember, the café is open during operational hours, as is our woodland trail. Parking is always free at Woody Bay station and dogs are welcome.

April 3rd (Friday) - we open for the 2026 season, we'll give you a warm Exmoor welcome!
April 3rd to 6th 2026 - we kick off with Easter Fun around Woody Bay with a special kids trail and Easter lucky dip!
April 18th / 19th - 21st to 23rd - 25th / 26th - our popular Postcode Week returns for 2026, adults ride for just £2 and kids go free!
May 17th (Sunday) – NEW Mixed Traction Day engines in our steam and diesel fleet will be in service giving the chance to ride behind some unusual traction.
May 30th (Saturday) – NEW Meet Henry Day, bring your four legged friend to meet Henry our famous railway collecting dog at 'Woofy Bay'.
June 21st (Sunday) - Father's Day – footplate rides and shed tours will be pre-bookable for Dad's special day.
Summer Holidays - We'll have free kids trails right around the railway and woodland, come and join the fun!
Aug 22nd / 23rd - NEW DATE 'Rails and Dinosaur scales', this very popular event returns with roaring summertime activities at Woody Bay, get close-up to our visiting dinosaurs!
Sept 26th / 27th - our Annual Gala with details and attractions to be announced.
November 8th - Remembrance Sunday, with our now tradititonal memorial service and limited service trains.
November 15th (Sunday) - NEW Model Railway Show at Woody Bay station, details to be announced.
December 5th (Saturday) - Quiet Santa, a quiet and calm Christmas experience so you can be yourself at Woody Bay.
December 12th & 13th / 19th - 24th – Santa Specials, Santa and his Naughty Elves are at Woody Bay, kids can meet Santa and get a small gift.
December 28th to 31st – New Year Trains, why not shake off Christmas with some fresh Exmoor air?
Plus, NEW FOR 2026, we'll be announcing some more special events including:
- Footplate rides – ride on the footplate of one of our famous engines.
- Footplate experience days - learn what it's like to drive and fire a steam engine on the iconic Lynton and Barnstaple Railway.
