Work is almost complete on the operating floor. Recessed brass lifting rings have been fitted to the hatch that allows access to the space below. (Picture 1). When the box was recovered, the hatch was absent and the available drawings and photographs unfortunately provide no detailed information on the original.
Three of the corner posts plus the door posts have now been stood up, and connected together by the lintels. This has enabled trial fits of the sills, intermediate uprights and the surviving window sashes. The large fixed sash is being relocated to its original position on the rear wall (Picture 2), the left hand one in the photo, with a dummy sash on the right.
Repair work on the frame timbers seems never ending, with numerous sections of rot and historical damage needing to be replaced with new wood. The picture is the underside of the sill from the gable end facing the station, with a new drip channel section being rebated. (picture 3). The wood is Douglas fir, to match the original.
