Dickens' 'The Signalman' at Valley of Rocks, Lynton

Published: 19th July, 2026

The Lynton and Barntaple Railway is pleased to have played a small part in the production of Charles Dickens' tale of a troubled signalman. Playing at the Valley of Rocks, Lynton until 25th July we supplied equipment that the lonely operative uses as he mans his remote outpost.

The Signalman, recounts Dickens' personal experiences of the Staplehurst railway disaster of 1865. The protagnist, played by Gerald Dickens, the great great grandson of the author, wrestles with loneliness and responsibility as he undertakes his safety critical duties.

Playing outdoors at the stunning Vallet of Rocks againstthe backdrop of the Bristol Channel, this Pleasure Dome Theatre Company production is one not to be missed.
