The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway Trust has been fortunate enough to be awarded a grant of £2,500 by the Veronica Awdry Charitable Trust (VACT) towards the overhaul of one of our locomotives, Axe.
Veronica Awdry is the daughter of the Reverend Awdry, of Thomas the Tank Engine fame, and the VACT makes grants to various heritage railway projects as well as charitable causes that enhance the lives of people in Devon. We have been very fortunate to receive these funds against worthy competition and we are gratful to VACT for their award.
Our very own cheeky little tank engine, Axe, is currently undergoing an extensive overhaul, with work well underway. This valuable contribution to the Axe fund gets us closer to the day when Axe steams again.
If you would also like to help us to complete the overhaul, the Axe Fund is still open to receive donations via the button below.
Also keep an eye out for an in-depth Steam on the Moor episode on what we'll be doing next on the restoration.
