Launch of our Signal Box appeal with a special Steam on the Moor episode

Published: 8th August, 2025

We pleased to announce the launch of an appeal for the restoration of Barnstaple Town signal box which served the L&BR from its opening in 1898 until closure in 1935.

The box, a standard Evans, O'Donnell & Co. of Chippenham design, was acquired by the trust in 2023 after its former use as a summerhouse house in North Devon and is now in the early stages of restoration.

When rebuilt it will not only be an important historical artefact for the railway but will also prove to be a very useful building, serving initially as part of the planned museum space at the Blackmoor site.

So you can learn more about the restoration we've produced a special episode of our Steam on the Moor films which has a deep dive into the ongoing work.

You can also donate via a dedicated webpage here where you can make small monthly or larger one-off donations via our online portals or by post.
