Eagle-eyed visitors to Woody Bay or Chelfham of late may have noticed that brand new interpretation boards have been popping up around the sites.
As part of the national Railway 200 celebrations, and in advance of our September gala, we have installed 8 specially designed interpretation boards at Woody Bay, Killington Lane, Blackmoor and Chelfham giving vistors some insights into the railways' fascinating social and technical history.
These boards, kindly funded by SKF, draw from our extensive photographic archives and describe the history of the line, Woody Bay, Blackmoor and Chelfham stations, the passenger and goods operations, the history of our unique carriages and how the signalling works.
Why not make a day of it in North Devon and visit Woody Bay and Killington Lane by train, then Blackmoor (the Old Station Inn) and Chelfham (open Wednesdays and Sundays) to get a great overview of the history of the L&BR?
The Woody Bay shop also has numerous books that go into more depth about the history for those whose appetite has been whetted.
