Some news from Blackmoor

Published: 27th February, 2026

An opportunity recently arose, at short notice, to acquire a large quantity of crushed stone at a very competitive price from a nearby construction site on Exmoor.

A temporary stockpile has been formed in the field owned by the railway beside Old Station Inn car park at Blackmoor. The material will be used to form an access track along the proposed railway deviation around the Inn to the original alignment near Bridge 55 following on from our recent fencing works. The route will be used initially to enable a permissive footpath along the route of the railway from OSI as far as Bridge 54 at Pound Lane towards Wistlandpound.

In due course it will be used as a contractor’s access when we are ready to start restoring the existing embankment across on that section, It will also be used to and form a new embankment for the deviation and station area adjacent to Old Station Inn where a significant quantity of material will be required to raise the ground level. This will be scheduled after planning approval has been secured for the extension to Parracombe re-using suitable material removed from the currently infilled Killington Lane and Parracombe Lane cuttings.
