TrackForce our Youth Volunteer programme has gone from strength to strength since its launch in April. With a growing cohort from across Exmoor and North Devon the group has been focusing its attention on a major refurbishemnet of the minature railway which has suffered from drainage problems resulting in damage to the railway's sleepers..
TrackFiorce lifted the track panels across a 100 yard section so that the Tuesday and Thursday gangs could do the necessary civil engineering with new drainage, membrane and sub-base, with Trackforce then relaying the panels.
Yesterday TrackForce picked up replacing sleepers and ballasting the alignement so that they could run their furst test trains over the revitalised section. We hope that TrackForce will soon be regularly operating the minature railway as it's an excellent way for them to learn the fundamentals of railway operations. In addition, they've all been familarising themsleves with the responsibilities of the footplate and guarding staff to bring theory into reality.
