Robin Horne and I has been doing a sterling job administering the 100 Club for a good numbers of years no, it being a major tool in our fundraising kit contributing to such practical things as the vacuum braking cylinder casting patterns (for our carriage brakes renewal) and the fantastic ballast tamping machine which has helped keep out trackwork in tip-top condition. It allows our members' to have a 'flutter' whilst regularly supporting the railway, all with a chance of a nice cash prize each month.
However, owing to ill health, Robin has deciided that he must pass on the mantle to another willing L&BR volunteer.
Below lists the not onerous tasks in running the 100 Club, a job which can be done entirely from home at a time to suit, so ideal for someone remote from the railway. Quite simply you need access to a computer with Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and as a guide Robin estimates it takes an average out at a couple of hours a week at most. The tasks are as follows.
1. Maintain the spreadsheet.
2. Add new members to it as required.
3. Woody Bay will notify of sales with full details either by email or post.
4. Occasionally bank cheques (this can be done at any Lloyds Branch, or by post.
5. Draw the winning numbers on the last Friday of every month, he uses a programme called www.Random.org
6. Notify the winners, generally by email.
7. Notify the Treasurer of their wishes, ie. payment, donation etc
8. Every month contact the members whose numbers have lapsed recently, usually by email.
9. Answer the odd query.
